Former Zimbabwe information minister, Jonathan Moyo, spoke with Techmag TV in a wide ranging interview that covered the period before Mugabe’s removal.
Moyo said Grace Mugabe ‘s poor judgment was used as an excuse to remove Mugabe.

11. The fact that there was a push for three vice Presidents did not mean that G40 supported it.
12. Calling for a third vice President was not criminal and did not warrant military intervention.
13. The military singled out key unpopular positions to justify a coup, they had attempted in the past but failed.
14. They attempted in 2008, to succeed Mugabe. The plan was in place since 2008.
15. It was unfortunate that Mugabe did not come up with a succession plan.
16. There was no chance of Grace becoming a Vice President. However, this was given prominence by those who wanted to succeed Mugabe.
17. The interface rallies, dismissal of Mnangagwa or Chiwenga ‘s presser were just excuses.
18. There was nothing done by Mugabe to mitigate the coup that was being planned since 2008.
19. This was an internal threat, the government planning a coup against itself.
20. This was being done by key components of the government, including media and churches.
21. Moyo said he raised this issue with Mugabe. Nothing was done, because nothing could have been done.
22. This is because key architects of the coup were Mugabe ‘s confidants.
23. These were Mugabe’ s most trusted people. Moyo said as a Mafikizolo, he was not trusted by Mugabe.
24. Mugabe overstayed without a plan to exit.
25. Mugabe should have came up with a transitional plan.
26. Vultures pounced because there was a vacuum.
27. If there was an exit plan, the coup would have been avoided.
28. Moyo said he stands by his view that Mnangagwa ‘s appointment as VP was not an annointment to be President of Zimbabwe.
