Media reports from Harare revealed that Tendai Bit, the First MDC Alliance Vice President, has received two death threats from Nelson Chamisa supporters in the past month.

The first threat was received a month ago and the latest one was received last week. The threats were received over the phone and the caller who was using a stolen phone accused Biti of betraying Chamisa and plotting to unite with Thokozani Khupe.

Biti was forced to report the threats to the police and police investigations revealed that the phone that was being used to threaten Biti was reported as stolen. The vellphone number that was being used belonged to Eddie Gore from Chitungwiza.

Biti told media in Zimbabwe that he knows the people behind the threats and they are from the MDC Alliance.

Biti said he the first threats happened after he had argument and said he now fears for his life since the Chamisa supporters want to burn his house and to assassinate him.

Police

Police confirmed that Biti has received thre death threats from the same number in the past month and they have beefed up his security with regular surveilance at his house.

Biti is an MP and a former Minister of Finance of Zimbabwe.

Tensions

Tensions have been rising between Biti and Chamisa after reports surfaced that Biti wants to challenge Chamisa when the new MDC Alliance party is formed.

Biti is aware that Chamisa was spying on him to Morgan Tsvangirai during in the past. Biti considers Chamisa to be unstrategic and an amateur who lacks the stamina to outmaneuver ZANU-PF.

Further, a meeting that was held between Biti and Khuphe in Bulawayo is said to have angered Chamisa who called Biti and angrily asked him what he was doing.

Media Ban

Chamisa has reportedly placed a blanket ban on all MDC leaders not to talk to the media, including Tendai Biti, who was using the media to increase his profile, but Chamisa has ignored the ban and has given interviews to the press this week.

Conclusion

While Chamisa is popular among Zimbabweans, it is looking less likely that he will manage to win the elections in 2023.

Chamisa has failed to give a clear direction after the Supreme Court ruling that nullified his election as MDC President and ordered an extraordinary congress.
