Masawara Group founder and chief executive officer Shingai Mutasa says he is set to change his hotel’s colonial names.

Mutasa said he will replace Jameson and Churchill with names which glorify our own history.

Mutasa was a key note speaker at the inaugural In Conversation with Trevor Africa Day Gala dinner.

The businessman said the names of his two hotels glorify people who destroyed Zimbabwe’s history and colonized the country.

He said Africa must own its problems to grow at scale adding that: If we’re are to succeed as Africa, we need to start the process of decolonosing the mind because colonization is a mind issue”.

Shingai is the founder of Masawara, a Zimbabwe-focused investment firm, which is listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
