Gabon’s coup leader general Brice Oligui Nguema was sworn in as interim president on Monday in Libreville.

Nguema promised to lead his country to ‘free and transparent’ elections, but did not commit to a specific date.

“I swear before God and the Gabonese people to faithfully preserve the republican regime,” said Nguema

The general, head of the elite Republican Guard, led officers in a coup on Wednesday last week against President Ali Bongo Ondimba.
