Zanu PF thugs in Gutu South abducted and severely assaulted a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Mr. Paul Vengai Marin’a.
This incident occurred on Tuesday, 15th August 2023.
Mr. Marin’a hails from Murombo village, Ward 27, under Chief Makore.
Hon. Hamandishe Gobvu, the aspiring CCC member of parliament for Gutu South, condemned the brutal assault of Mr. Marin’a by Zanu PF members.
Mr. Gobvu stated, “Mr. Togarepi and Zanu-PF thugs must cease intimidation and the division of Gutu South families through violence. Creating discord among families and engaging in political warfare is not the Zimbabwe we desire. We seek peace in Zimbabwe both before and after elections.”
Mr. Tangemhare, the sitting councillor for Ward 27 in Gutu South, is affiliated with the CCC party. This ward has been won by the opposition since 2006.
In order to secure this ward, Zanu PF has resorted to violence against CCC members.
Zanu-PF members, belonging to Mr. Pupurai Togarepi, a Zanu PF member of Parliament, reportedly attacked Mr. Marin’a using logs, open hands, and other makeshift weapons, as recounted by eyewitness Mr. Tafara Gumbo.
Mr. Marin’a is currently seeking refuge in a safe house and is in critical condition due to his injuries.
He is presently undergoing medical treatment.
Zanu-PF members have issued threats to kill Mr. Marin’a if he returns to Gutu South.
Zanu PF members have transformed Gutu South into a warzone.
A few weeks ago, Zanu PF, led by Mr. Togarepi’s son, abducted and tortured CCC members who had attended President Chamisa’s rally at Maungwa business centre.
Over 35 CCC members were displaced by Zanu PF members from Gutu South, said CCC aspiring member of parliament Mr Gobvu.
