Nigeria’s former Minister for External Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, says South Africa instigated the African Union (AU) in a matter regarding the coup in the Republic of Niger.

In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Monday Ankiyemi said the move by SA is a deliberate attempt to undermine the authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He claimed that AU and ECOWAS were supposed to be on the same side in dealing with the coup however the decisions that were made by the AU in taking the lead on the Niger crisis were instigated by SA.

This comes as ECOWAS ordered the coup leaders to reinstate the ousted President Mohammed Bazoum.

Bolaji said SA had earlier blamed Tinubu for the coup in Niger, and eventually influenced the AU to take steps in order to trump ECOWAS.

He said there is a video circulating showing an analysis on a SA elevation station, blaming Tinubu for the coup in Niger, because his election was contentious.
