Newsday reports that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has threatened to “take action” if the British fails to claim the remains of Cecil John Rhodes buried at Matobo.

Mnangagwa made the remarks during a Zanu PF rally in Bulilima, Matabeleland South, on Saturday.

He said at one time when Zimbabwe gained independence the late Josiah Tungamirai and Solomon Mujuru approached him and said “we want to go and blast Rhodes’s grave because he is a colonialist.”

Mnangagwa said he stopped them however, the whites do not need Rhodes, he will see what to do with the remains.

Rhodes died in 1902 and was buried in Matobo Hills National Park, south of Bulawayo, as per his wish.
