South Africans in Pretoria took to the streets on Monday over the extension of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits.

The community of Marabastad said they were not consulted about the extension.

This comes after Home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced that the validity of Zep would be extended by six months from June 31 to December 31.

Community members said they were opposed to illegal immigrants who were selling drugs, engaged in prostitution and making illegal electricity connections, among other crimes.

Meanwhile, Motsoaledi said he had no obligation to consult communities on the extension of Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (Zep).
