A leaked phone call between popular award winning Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono and a Zimbabwe intelligence agent has left Zimbabweans shocked.

In the 34 minutes audio, Chin’ono attacks CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa’s leadership style and reveals that the young leader will lose the Zimbabwe 2023 elections.

Key points from the secret recording:

  1. Chin’ono said there will be no demonstrations in Zimbabwe because this needs leadership. Chamisa thinks he can win the elections without registering new voters, he is misguided. he failed to register people in his stronghold of Harare.
  2. Chamisa did not go out to ask supporters to register, he should have registered at least 1 million voters. This election is foregone. What I see is that there another party will be formed. This is because Chamisa has shown that he is not competent.
  3. if Chamisa wanted the old MDC structures, he should the why is he pushing away veteran leaders of the MDC like Tendai Biti and Weshman Ncube. He does not like them.
  4. Chin’ono says having no structures is bad for the CCC. You can not have a party with three peole, Chamisa, Mahere and Ostallos.
  5. The people at the top like Mahere are vibrant, but they are only good at talking good English. The real work must be done on the ground.
  6. Chamisa is always quoting bible verses, it is well known within the party that he is a weak leader.
  7. ZANU-PF has a strong rigging machinery and for Chamisa to win he needed to overwhelm the system with new voters.
  8. Chin’ono said he asked Chamisa to call for the 2023 elections not to be held, because that would have encouraged ZANU-PF to work on reforms. ZANU-PF can not agree to reforms because they are afraid of losing.
  9. When the agent called Chin’ono a spy, the journalist just laughed. The intelligence agent then goes on to remind Chin’ono that is he was prospering because of attacking ZANU-PF.
  10. Chin’ono revealed to the agent that Zimbabwe billionaire, Strive Masiywa, advised late MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai not to get into a Government of National Unity (GNU) with Mugabe.
