Japan former prime minister Shinzo Abe assassinated at a campaign
Japan Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died after being shot on Friday while campaigning for a parliamentary election.
The shooter opened fire on Abe, 67, from behind as he addressed members of the public on a drab traffic island in the western city of Nara.
The suspect has been identified the suspect as Yamagami Tetsuya, a Nara resident. He was arrested at the scene on charges of attempted murder.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the attack, saying: “It is barbaric and malicious and it cannot be tolerated.”
“This attack is an act of brutality that happened during the elections- the very foundation of our democracy – and is absolutely unforgivable,” Mr Kishida said.
