A plane carrying former president Donald Trump suffered engine failure late Saturday evening over the Gulf of Mexico, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in New Orleans shortly after taking off from the city.

The Dassault Falcon 900 had flown about 75 miles from a New Orleans airport before turning back to the city.

The plane was in the air between 20 and 30 minutes when one of the engines failed and the pilot of the aircraft decided to turn around and return to New Orleans airport

The plane had been taking Trump back to his luxury Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, from a New Orleans hotel where he addressed Republican party donors at a private event.
