Arrested flamboyant  Ugandan Tinder swindler, Amon Amoleno Namara, is spending his second weekend in a South African jail while awaiting his formal bail hearing this week.

His arrest follows complaints by three women who lost over R3, 250 000 to him after meeting him on Tinder.

A female executive at a Johannesburg telecommunications company told the City Press newspaper that she lost over R250 000 to Namara in 2020.

The money was spent on maintaining Namara’s children, groceries, utility bills, furniture and two vacations which he suggested but never paid for when he received the money from her.

The female executive told the newspaper that she broke up with Namara after he asked her to open  a new bank account at Investec Bank and deposit R1 million into the new ccount, which she believed were funds from illegal activities.

Namara did not want to use his own bank account at FNB to receive the funds and she refused to let the deposit into her bank account and threatened to report Namara to the police.

The newspaper said the funds were likely part of money taken from another woman.

She said when Namara was arrested last week, He called her asking if she could come and see him as he is not coping at the Johannesburg correctional centre where he is being held.
