In an unexpected turn of events, suspended MDC-T Vice President, Dr Thokozani Khupe, has been deserted by key allies after her announcement of a split during a press conference in Bulawayo yesterday.
MPs, senators and councilors who were originally with Khuphe’s MDC-T were conspicuously absent during the event.
Senator Khaliphani Phugeni, a loyal supporter of Khupe for many years, was among those who did not attend the event.
When asked by Gambakwe Media if he was in the new faction announced by Khupe, Phugeni refused to comment.
A Harare based political analyst told Gambakwe Media that many MDC-T MPs, senators and councilors are afraid of being recalled by Mwonzora if they publicly support Khupe.
‘Mwonzora has the power of recall and Khupe will soon be recalled’ , said the analyst.
