Kenyans were angered when international fast food giant, KFC, ran out of potatoes after the holiday rush.

KFC imports all their potatoes from Egypt, South Africa and the USA. The company said in a statement that they could not buy local potatoes as they do not meet their international standards.

#BoycotKFC was trending for days, while competitor Burger King made fun of KFC with a cheeky ad.

The issue resulted in an outcry, with local potato famers saying they can easily meet KFC’s demand for potatoes locally if the company gave them the required standards.

KFC eventually agreed to source potatoes locally. Local farmers committed to change their methods to meet the standards required by KFC.
