The Reserve Bank of Zambia has launched investigations after panic withdrawals gripped banks in the past few days, leading to cash shortages countrywide.

Speaking on Diamond TV, an industry body representative said the run on banks is being caused by fears of the ongoing investigations after the election of new President, Hakainde Hichilema.
He said Zambians are currently circulating over $1 Billion dollars outside the formal banking system and cash now has to be booked in advance.
