Former Zimbabwe Finance Minister. Tendai Biti, has lashed out at the new Zimbabwe gold (ZIG) currency.

Speaking to the Standard Newspaper, Tendai Biti said the ZIG is a Tokoloshe and it will soon lose all its value.
Biti said introducing a currency is not like waking up and changing from a red shirt to a yellow shirt and then tomorrow changing to a blue shirt.

Biti said what Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, John Mushayavanhu has done, is like removing the zeros, the same way that former governor, Gideon Gono used to do.

Biti said the ZIG will not be accepted internationally and will be rejected by businesses for such transaction as paying for imported goods like fuel.Biti said the only solution is for Zimbabwe to have a new government, a missed opportunity in 2023.

He called for Zimbabweans to demonstrate against Mnangagwa ‘s government.Biti said the new ZIG will start crashing after only 3 days after the market starts digesting it.Please see the full interview in the Standard Newspaper – 7 April 2024.
