An prison official at the Estcourt correctional centre has been suspended following the leaking of several pictures of Jacob Zuma in prison.

In a statement, the department says the images were stolen from a camera of the official who had been assigned to take photos for institutional filing purposes.

Deaprtment spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, says a criminal case has been opened against the member who is suspected to have stolen the SD card containing the images of the former south african president.

Nxumalo says the matter is highly sensitive and is being investigated by both SAPS and the department.

He says the official involved has also been contemplated with a suspension notice.

Nxumalo has urged people to refrain from sharing the images.

Msholozi is currently serving his 15 months sentence at the Estcourt correctional centre.

He will spend the first 2 weeks self isolating.

However, he is set to be transferred to another correctional centre or unit, most probably the Westville Correctional Centre in Durban.
