Atleast 60 people mostly foreign nationals are reported to be unaccounted for following a deadly ambush on their convoy by militants in the town of Parma in northern Mozambique.

According to multiple reports, only seven vehicles and a convoy of 17 made it to safety after the attack on Wednesday.

Authorities say seven people including one South African identified as Adrian Nell, are confirmed dead, and many others wounded in the recovered vehicles.

The South African government is considering sending military forces, as part of a mission to rescue civilians trapped in Parma, but civilians are believed to include foreign workers from South Africa, Britain.

Meanwhile, France security company, Lionel dike says they have brought 120 people to safety since last Wednesday’s attack.

However, he says the attack helicopters, owned by his company are not suited to extract people, and his appeal for personal transportation helicopters to be deployed there it says the Mozambique military is moving into the area and is expected to conduct searches for the ISIS, linked militants.
