All foreign owned shops and stalls, in Durban, closed yesterday after a group that broke away from an illegal march went on a looting Spree in the CBD.

Police reported that ABOUT 30 people gathered at Dinuzulu Park, wanting to march to the city hall and hand over a memorandum.

Police told them they could not march. Meanwhile another group converged in another area of the city and started to loot foreign owned shops.

Sadaq Imran, who lost over R400 000 worth of stock when his shop was looted, said about 40 people entered his shop and started looting. They stole R40 000 cash and stock worth R400 000. They also badly beat up his brother.

Pakistan South Africa Association President, Hayat Khan, said foreigners are now living in fear. He said the authorities must put a stop to the attacks and revealed that many of the looted and closed shops have South African employees.
