Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa says health workers should reconsider their withdrawal of services following a surge in coronavirus infections as the number Covid 19 cases has surpassed 3000 and 67 known deaths.

Speaking during the burial of Air marshall Perence Shiri, Mnangagwa said the government is attending to the grievances of health workers.

“I call on the medical staff to act on national interest and exhibit a great sense of responsibility. My government hears your cries, listens to your concerns but the time to serve is now”, said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa said the grievances of health workers which his government acknowledged and continued to address cannot be enjoyed at the expense of loss of life whe the pandemic spreads and the death toll rises.

Mnangagwa’s remarks come at a time when nurses have downed tools demanding salaries in United States dollars and proper personal protective equipment.

Meanwhile more than 300 health workers have tested positive for Covid-19 due to lack of proper personal protective equipment.
