MDC Alliance vice president Tendai Biti has slammed ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa for labelling the opposition party a terrorist organisation.

Addressing journalists in Harare this Wednesday afternoon, Biti asserted that the Alliance is a legitimate constitutional organisation that many years ago took the bold decision to achieve democratic change through peaceful democratic constitutional means.

Biti said the Alliance is concerned about the deepening human rights crisis and the labelling of the party as a terrorist organisation by Chinamasa.

Biti said ZANU PF is the party that deserves to be labelled the terrorist organisation thus it has to account for the abductions of political activist like Itai Dzamara, MDCT trio and many others who are fearing for their lives in hiding.

Biti said the attempt by Zanu PF to liquidate the party is regrettable, “We’ve remained loyal to the value of democratic change”.

“We remain committed to the need for sincere dialogue to restore the social contract despite the increased temperature. We remain loyal to peaceful, constitutional change”, said Biti.

Biti said the MDC Alliance fully supports citizens who organized the protests for July 31st, saying it is a constitutional right for Zimbabweans to demonstrate peacefully.

Biti said a responsible government would have asked for dialogue with the organiser of the protest.

He also demanded the release of prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition activist Jacob Ngarivhume who were both denied bail on charges of inciting public violence.
