Nelson Chamisa is set for a major loss this week in the high court after Tendai Biti failed to produce documents that show that the MDC Alliance is a political party.

The Alliance went to court to argue that the MDC Alliance was a seperate political party and therefore the MPs can not be reaclled by MDC-T.

However, sources revealed that during arguments in court, the MDC Alliance represented by Tendai Biti was unable to produce the new Alliance Agreement, constitution or any document that show that the MDC Alliance was a disticnt political party.

Jameson Timba, on Friday, while being interviewed by Blessed Mhlanga, said the MDC Alliance was dissolved on 2 March 2018 at a meeting of the Alliance Partners. This is how Tendai Biti ended up being Vice President of the MDC Alliance Party.

However, Timba said a new Alliance Agreement was not drawn up, which was an oversight, however they will produce minutes of the meeting at a future date.

Plan B

As a plan B, Nelson Chamisa frantically organised 2014 structures this week to meet and petition Mwonzora and Khuphe to call a National council meeting on the 6th of June 2020.

This move is meant to buy time and potentially allow the Chamisa faction to challenge and stop congress if Mwonzora and Komichi decide to go ahead with the extraordinary congress without having called the National council.

Chamisa, through Welshman Ncube, also tried to persuade former Chairman Lovemore Moyo to join the Khuphe faction and influence processes there. However, when Moyo joined the MDC- T whatsapp group, he was asked to leave by MDC-T leaders who told him that he had resigned his position.

Whats Happening Now ?

Chamisa is slowly realizing that the extraordinary congress will go ahead without him. He is therefore starting to try and influence events in the MDC-T. At the same time he is attempting to keep the Alliance political party as an option. However, if Chamisa was to form a new party, he risks losing control of two key activities:

  • The audit of the MDC Alliance Books will result in Chamisa and Hwende risk getting arrested for monies that were not accounted for.
  • MDC-T leaders want to trace funds that were reportedly sent to Namibia. The funds are reportedly about $600 000 which was sent to Namibia to prevent these funds getting into the hands of the Khupe faction.
  • Many people in the structures that were sidelined by Chamisa and his close team during the 2018 elections are baying for his blood. Chamisa is afraid to go to the extraordinary congress because he is not sure how many of these people would vote for him. He could potentially lose to Mzonzora.
  • The Khuphe faction no longer wants dialogue with Chamisa. They have announced that Chamisa has explelled himself from the MDC-T.

In conclusion,

I would like to say that Chamisa missed an opportunity to unite the party when the supreme court judgement first came out.

Chamisa has also shown his lack of experience when it comes to dealing with complicated situations, and has resorted to crude methods that are exposing him as someone who does not want to work within the constitution. This accusation will hang above Nelson Chamisa’s head for a long time.
