South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has revealed that Coronavirus Infections are projected to rise sharply in the next few weeks.

Ramaphosa was speaking this evening during an address to the nation.

Ramaphosa announced the following measures after consultations:

The alert level for the whole of South Africa will be lowered to level 3 from 1 June. 

This will result in the removal of various restrictions on the movement of people. 

Ramaphosa has also identified various metros as Coronavirus Hotspot. 

Hotspot include Tshwane, Johannesburg, Buffalo city, Cape Town eTekwini. 

The alert level will be reviewed for hotspots every 2 weeks.

Ramaphosa also announced various measures for companies re-opening. 

Employees with underlying conditions and those over 60 should stay at home. 

Various businesses remain closed that include restaurants, gyms, hairdressers etc. 

Ramaphosa appealed for a partnership between public transport operators and commuters to avoid infections. 

Borders will remain closed except for goods and repatriation of South Africans. 

Schools will reopen for Grades 7 and 12 from 1 June with various measures. 

The school curriculum will be trimmed and the calendar modified to take into account the impact of Coronavirus. 

Institutions of Higher learning are required to implement remote learning strategies.Â
