Tendai Biti has blasted the government for capturing the institution of parliament stating that it’s independence must be fiercely guarded.

His remarks comes amid efforts to free the Parliament Public Accounts Committee from the grip of cartels and state capture.

Biti said parliament must be freed as it is expected to be independent.

“Of late this institution has been under attack from cartels and other merchants of state capture.

The independence of parliament codified in section 117 of the constitution must fiercely be protected and defended,” he said.Biti urged the minister of Finance to present as a matter of urgency the finance bill which is expected to clarify a number of contested financial issues.
