President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at Kamungoma in Gutu, where he will preside over the commissioning of the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine.

The memorial site evokes memories of the struggle for independence and the brutality that was unleashed by the colonial regime.

In May 1978, 105 people are reported to have been killed at Kamungoma Pungwe gathering by Ian Smith’s government.

Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine is a reminder of the painful experiences and sacrifices the country travelled and made in its quest for self-determination.
