ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests. He said one suspect is aged 17 and the other two suspects are aged 16.

According to Nyathi, the 3 thuggish boys ambushed the girl on her way home from school, proposed to her and were turned down. It didn’t go down well with them and they armed themselves and assaulted the young teenage girl in front of other learners.

One of the learners recorded the incident which showed one of the suspects brandishing a machete, which police consider a dangerous weapon and should not be carried in public, added Asst Comm Nyathi.
