South Africa Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi was shocked that only 4000 of the 178 000 Zimbabweans in South Africa have bothered to apply for other permits.
‘They are showing us the middle finger’, Motsoaledi said while speaking to the Sunday Times Newspaper.
Motsoaledi said most Zimbabwean Exemption permits holders believe that the court will rule against the decision by the South African cabinet to expire the permits by June 30, 2023.
Prominent lawyer, Adv Simba Chitando, is representing Zimbabweans who are taking the South African government to court, arguing that Zimbabweans who have been on the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits for over 10 years should be given permanent residence.
