Business Day reports that the Migrant Support Network has taken the Gauteng government to court challenging the Gauteng Township Economic Development Act that was promulgated into law by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura on Friday in Soweto.

The law is aimed at funding and supporting township enterprises owned by South Africans while banning migrants from owning and operating businesses in Gauteng townships.

At least R1billion has been raised in an effort aimed at achieving an inclusive economy to create much needed jobs for the people.

The law has potential to increase xenophobic attacks on foreigners as it restricts them to set up businesses.
