Chinese technology company, Huawei, is being taken to court by the South African government after violating employment laws.

The labour department said Huawe was audited in 2020 and was found to have employed approximately 90-percent of foreign nationals.

Huawei was granted a permit that required them to employ  at least 60% locals and a maximum of 40% foreign nationals.

South Africa has a severe shortage of skilled IT and Telecommunications professionals which has been made worse by the current pandemic.

The unemployment rate in South Africa has reached a high of 35% according to recent statistics.
