The government of Nigeria led by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari has warned South Africa about chasing foreigners.

In a statement dated 18th January 2022, the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg said it is aware of threats of attacks on foreigners.

 

“The Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg is aware of threats of attacks on foreigners by members of the Patriotic Alliance Party as indicated in the hash tag #PutSouthAfricansFirst from 19th -21nd of January 2022,” said the Consulate.

 

“Of particular note is a voice note trending on social media that foreigners would be chased out of the country with effect from 19th January 2022. Videos purporting attacks on some individuals are also in circulation,” added the Consulate.

 

 

However, the Consulate urged all Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm.
