A Madagascar minister, Serge Gell has left thousands shocked after he swam for more than 12 hours following a helicopter crash at a sea.

“It’s not my time to die,” exhausted Police Minister Serge Gelle said as he recovered on a stretcher.

Two other security officials travelling with him in the helicopter also survived the crash.

A search was still ongoing for two other passengers after the crash on Monday.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, according to police.

The team had been scouting an area in the north-eastern part of the country where a passenger boat had sunk.

Gelle became minister in August as part of a cabinet reshuffle carried out underPresident Andry Rajoelina. Rajoelina won Madagascar’s presidential elections in 2018.
