MDC Alliance activist Netsai Marova has been released on bail following her arrest at the RGM International Airport last night.

Marova was accused of entering a restricted area, her lawyer Jeremiah Bhamu said

The deputy national youth organising secretary Netsai Marova has been granted ZWL$4000 by the Harare Magistrates court.

According to the charge sheet, Marova is alleged to have intentionally encroached into the airport’s restricted area.

“In that on the 27th day of June 2021 and at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare Netsai Marova unlawfully and intentionally entered a restricted area through the departure door and no entry of the arrivals hall knowingly that such entry was restricted,” read the statement

A source close said Marova had gone to the airport to pick-up her brother who was coming from Dubai to attend their father’s funeral.

Marova was represented by Jeremiah Bhamu from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Marova and six other MDC-Alliance members are also facing charges of illegally staging a demonstration in Harare during last year’s Covid-19 lockdown period.

She is also facing charges of faking abduction together with fellow party members Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri.
