The self-proclaimed prophet Shephered Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri failed to get magistrate Patrick Chirwa off case yesterday.

The extradition hearing of the Bushiri’s resumed in the Lilongwe Magistrates Court, Malawi yesterday at 13:30.

Last Monday the case was adjourned after Bushiri’s legal team applied for the recusal of Magistrate Patrick Chirwa, claiming he was biased.

Bushiri’s lawyer Wapona Kita told the court that he isn’t asking for Viva to return, but the state start the process again because it was transferred irregularly.

Initially, the matter was assigned to senior resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba, but he had to be replaced as he was recovering from Covid-19.

However, the court dismissed the application to have Chirwa recused from presiding over the Bushiri extradition matter.

The court said there was no sufficient grounds for recusal.
