Tendai Biti, the MDC Alliance vice president, has apologised to the Chipinge people for calling them witches in his response to a comment by Professor Lovemore Madhuku.

Biti made the offending statement when he was commenting on Professor Lovemore Madhuku’s interpretation of the law, which he characterized as being “pure witchcraft.” He then went on to say that this was hardly surprising since Madhuku hails from Chipinge.

Biti said his Twitter comment was not his reflection of the people of Chipinge, but he was joking with Prof Madhuku, his long time friend.

“In conclusion & for the avoidance of doubt I regret my tweet with Lovemore and am sorry for its pub stereotype banter. I have known Madhuku for years & we have shared a life together in 3 different spheres. It was mistake to share things that are privately said in jest. Zikomo”, he wrote.

Biti said the tweet and its reference to witchcraft and Chipinge was obviously metaphor ,zest and humor But upon realizing it could be misunderstood he took it down.
