Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, has comfirmed that the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) is edging closer to sending troops to Mozambique.

This comes after Zimbabwe had rejected a plea by Donald Trump to intervene in the Mozambique crisis as it is still under US sanctions.

Charamba spoke as five Sadc leaders began a day-long summit in Maputo to tackle the conflict in the Cabo Delgado region.

“Sadc is fast moving towards a subregional response against Islamic insurgency, an initiative which started when Emmerson Mnangagwa was chairman of the Sadc Organ on Defence, Politics and Security,” he said.

George Charamba also comfirmed that Zimbabwe as the member of the SADC Brigade will be donating Troops and equipment for this intervention.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is actual pushed to intervene because more than 400 thousand refuges have fled Mozambique to various neighbouring countries.
