Chaos has brocken out in Ivory Coast after President Alassane Ouattara has decided to run for a third term.

Ouattara was supposed to step down and hand over to the Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly who died after a Cabinet meeting on July 8. The death of Gon Coulibaly brought chaos to the ruling party as they no longer have a candidate.

This is the reason given by Outtara for going for a third term.

Marcel Amon-Tanoh, a long time ally of President Outtara, was forced to flee Ivory Coast after he declared his intention to run for the Presidency.

Members of the opposition have taken to the streets oppositing Ouattara’s third term bid which they say is unconstitutional. However, Outtara says the new constitutional limits do not apply to him because his previous term was before the 2008 constitution.
