High Court judge Justice Chitapi says the ruling in Hopewell Chin’ono’s bail appeal will be handed down on Thursday 6th August 2020.
Chinono’s lawyer Beatrice Mthethwa said the judge stated that the matter requires him to write a full judgement which will be heard on the 6th.
Chin’ono was denied bail by a Harare Magistrate and was remanded in custody till 6 August after he was arrested and charged with inciting public violence.
Meanwhile Alex T Magaisa said Zimbabwe’s justice system is messed up.
Posting on twitter, Magaisa said: “Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested 2 weeks ago & was denied bail. He appealed. The High Court said it didn’t have the record from the lower court. Next day the prosecution got a 5 day postponement. Now the HC judge reserves ruling for 4 days!”.
He said the way the judge has dealt with the matter makes a mockery of the constitutional right to bail.
