Econet’s subsidiary Ecocash has dismissed the government’s suspension of all mobile money transaction citing that permanent secretary of Information Nick Mangwana does not have the power to hand down such an important directive.
In a statement posted on its website, Ecocash said it is regulated by the Reserve bank of Zimbabwe and would naturally expect RBZ to communicate such.
Ecocash has reassured its customers including more than 10 million Zimbabweans, the majority of whom do not have bank accounts to remain calm and continue doing lawful transactions.
“Should there be any changes we shall give you adequate notice as required by the law”, read the statement.
