MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says the indefinite extension of a lockdown by ED Mnangagwa without cushioning measures for the vulnerable is wrong and inappropriate.

Writting on his Facebook wall, Chamisa condemned Mnangagwa’s indefinite extension of the lockdown without consultating stockholders as a treacherous move to arbitrary rule.

Chamisa said Mnangagwa should stop enforcing arbitrary rule under the guise of fighting covid-19.

“Most authoritarian regimes are now using COVID-19 situation as an stratagem to violate rights, abuse people, esp workers, informal traders & churches. Abuse & manipulation must be fought by all progressive citizens”, he said.

He said: “It indefinitely suspends the exercise of civil and political rights which are necessary checks and balances on the excesses of governmental power”.
