The My Beautiful Home competition, set in the Matopos community is a competition which seeks to revitalise traditional hut painting using only natural pigments such as soil, water, ash, clay and charcoal. From a cumulative total of 527 entries, Miss Peggy as referred to in Kim’s post won this year’s competition.
It is an interesting fact that hut painting is a traditional artistic expression that has for generations been practiced by women to enhance the beauty of their homesteads – communicating messages of family, love, conflict, hope and nature. It is truly a respectable gesture for Kim to highlight and bring awareness to this competition on her visit back home.
