🏛️ Latest Court Update
Harare Magistrate Denis Mangosi has remanded suspects Agrippa Chivhenge and Edious Rungano in custody until January 6, 2026, when their bail hearing will take place. The two are facing over 70 fraud charges linked to fake currency scams, with alleged victims numbering more than 100.
Agrippa Chivhenge and Edious Rungano allegedly utilized a “bait-and-switch” counterfeit currency scheme to steal high-value goods. Their primary method involved the following steps . The suspects identified victims through social media platforms where individuals were selling items such as mobile phones, laptops, and livestock. During the transaction, they would present a large bundle of cash. They allegedly placed a single genuine United States dollar note on top to deceive the seller. The remainder of the bundle beneath the genuine note consisted of obsolete Zimbabwean dollar notes, which no longer have value. In one notable instance, they reportedly used this method to “pay” US$1,500 for 250 chickens, leaving the farmer with worthless currency.
A WhatsApp group of over 70 victims has actively requested media publicity for the case, expressing fears that if released on bail, the accused could target them again.
