At the time, Chiwenga and Mnangagwa were already planning the coup. However, most of the ordinary war veterans were not aware of the plan. For the plan to succeed, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga needed the support of all war veterans.
Yesterday, Mutsvangwa spoke on succession saying Mnangagwa has only 5 years until 2028 and laying out the process if Mnangagwa wanted to go beyond 2028.
