Legendary American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder has been granted Ghanaian citizenship during a ceremony at Jubilee House in Accra.

President Nana Akufo-Addo praised Wonder for his outstanding contributions to music, emphasizing that his ties with Ghana would serve to further strengthen the link between Africa and its diaspora.

Wonder had previously announced his intention to move to Ghana as part of his efforts to shield his grandchildren from racial injustice in the US.

He has been praising Ghana and reinforcing his links with Africa since the 1970s both through his music as well as in interviews.
