Former Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe has been sentenced to three years in prison for importing more than 138 000 litres of diesel in three tankers without paying duty.

Handing down the sentence, High Court judge Benjamin Chikowero also slapped Mukupe with a US$12 780 fine for fleecing the State of US$55 591-60 in import duty after he smuggled 189 979 litres of fuel from Mozambique.

Mukupe was arrester along with drivers Sam Kapisoriso, Joseph Taderera and Leo17nard Mudzuto for unlawfully importing diesel.

The four were sentenced to three and half years each with six months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
