Businesswoman Zodwa Mkandla has given an account of how she grew up and turned herself into the successful woman she is today.

Zodwa was born in 1972 in Mbembesi, Bubi in Matebeleland province. She had her early education at Mqwashini.

She proceeded to Mt. Pleasant High School for her secondary education then moved back to Bulawayo to St. Columbus where she finished her high school.

Zodwa said she started working as a bus conductor at Express Motorway something she did for two years.

She chose to pursue her passion for the tourism industry by obtaining a diploma in Travel and Tourism

Zodwa then managed to gain more working experience as a receptionist for a travel consultant and as a marketing director for a tour firm.

Then, she realised she’d had enough of working for other people. She founded Mkandla’s Traverze Travel in 2003 as a company specialising in leisure and business travel management.

Mkandla said her business had its ups and down however she managed to grow it. She owed her success to RBZ governor John Mangudya who gave her a loan to resuscitate her company after a major shutdown in 2008.

The businesswoman said she has managed to create a name for herself with the 20years she has run the company.

She added that she is now nurturing her 27years old daughter so that she takes over the running of the company.
