President Hakainde Hichilema met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Wednesday to speed up the debt restructuring programme for Zambia.

In a statement, Hakainde said he held fruitful discussions with his French counterpart President Macron.

He said Macron wants Zambia’s restructuring conclusively dealt with before the June 22-23 Summit for a New Global Financial Pact that France will host.

“We called on both France and China to jointly tackle the debt restructuring programme with the utmost speed”, said HH.

He added that they also attracted French investment in Zambia and strengthened bilateral cooperation in areas of infrastructure, defence, technology  biodiversity, tourism and environment.
