Popular Zimbabwean YouTuber, Sharlene Gumbo says she has moved back to Zimbabwe from the UK where she was working as an auditor for good.

Sharlene has been in Zimbabwe for the past 5 months and has not been posting any videos as she was settling down.

She revealed that living in the UK became difficult for her, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sharlene said after thinking about it, she eventually called her parents who accepted her decision to return home.

Sharlene said the main reasons why she returned home were the following:

1. Loniliness

Sharlene said even though she had cousins in the UK, she was always lonely and when COVID-19 hit she felt the void of being in the UK growing. She missed talking to her mum and always felt like a foreigner.

2. Work Life balance

Sharlene said she worked in audit and from October to April there was a busy period where she was constantly working long hours. She said she did not enjoy that life. The busy season for 2021 was the most brutal that she has ever had. From May 2021, she started thinking about quiting her job.

3. Sharlene felt that she could build something back home in Zimbabwe and she would like to see some projects through. She felt that it’s difficult to start a business while in the UK. She could also not start a business while in the UK as there were certain restrictions that came with her visa.

4. Cost of living in the UK

Sharlene said although the income was higher in the UK, the expenses were also higher. She believes one can save more money while in Zimbabwe than in the UK.

Sharlene said she felt that a 3 bedroomed house costs 350 000 pounds in the UK and she did not see how she could raise the deposit of 35 000 pounds to buy such a house. However in Zimbabwe, people are able to build their houses slowly but after about 5 to 6 years they will be owing their own houses.

5. The weather

Sharlene said she did not enjoy the winters in the UK. She enjoys the sunshine in Zimbabwe where she can go out more.

In the UK it’s always very cold and she could not go out on walks.

Sharlene said she has been home resting and enjoying time with family.
