THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has introduced new prison uniforms for serving inmates dumping the traditional white uniforms for males and green for females.

The uniforms were launched at Harare Central Prison, where Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi was the guest-of-honour.

Addressing the members of media fraternity, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe said the old uniforms remind thousands about the colonial times.

“Our traditional uniform was worn by sons and daughters who were tormented by the vile of colonial cruelty,” he said.

Male inmates will now wear orange uniforms consisting of long-sleeved shirts and trousers in winter and shorts and short-sleeved shirts in summer, while females shift from green to pink dresses.

The minister also handed over service vehicles to be distributed to prisons across the country.

The ZPCS received 13  five-tonne lorries, 25 Ford Ranger single cab trucks, seven NP300 pick-up trucks, 14 Toyota GD6 4X4 pickups, and two 64 seater buses from the government.

The fleet was procured through the Office of the President and Cabinet.
