PROMINENT Zimbabwean boxer Taurai Zimunya has died.
The 24 year old was pronounced dead on Monday morning.
According to multiple sources, Zimunya died after suffering brain damage in the ring during a fight on Sunday night.
Zimunya collapsed in the third round of his fight against Tinashe Majoni and was immediately rushed to hospital on life support.
Zimunya was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was unresponsive.
However, tests were conducted at West End clinic where it was ascertained that he suffered bleeding in the brain.
This is the first time in Zimbabwe that a boxer has died from injuries sustained in the ring.
The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board confirmed the sad news although the medical report on the cause of death is yet to be released.
