The President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina survived an assassination earlier today.

Madagascan authorities arrested several people including foreign nationals on suspicion of plotting to kill the President.

Andry Rajoelina was sworn in as President of the Indian Ocean island country in 2019 after a hard-fought election and a constitutional court challenge from his rival.

According to multiple sources, the individuals behind the attempt to assassinate the president had devised a plan for the elimination and neutralisation of a number of people including the head of state.

The latest attack on the head of state comes following the death of Haitan President who was assassinated during the night at his homestead.

The attack also comes after the President of Mali survived a knife attack.

Last month, the President of France Macron was heavily slapped while greeting his supporters.
